Meet Coach Wilson Onuoha

Coach Wilson is a licensed International Chess Federation (FIDE) Instructor with over 10 years of coaching and tournament experience, dedicated to helping students grow both on and off the chessboard.

He has competed in international tournaments across Africa and Europe, including Kenya, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Germany, the Czech Republic, and São Tomé and Príncipe. His global experience brings a unique perspective to his teaching—blending high-level chess knowledge with patience, structure, and encouragement for young learners.

  • 1st Place – 2024 Michigan State Speed Chess Championship (UNR), Detroit

  • Silver Medalist – 2023 Ghana National Team Chess Championship

  • 1st Place – 2023 Elite Chess Tournament, Accra, Ghana

Beyond competition, Coach Wilson is deeply committed to education and youth development. He currently serves as an instructor at a leading U.S. chess academy in Washington, D.C. and teaches Critical Thinking and Socio-Emotional Skills at the Kent County Juvenile Detention Center.
